Step 1: The Purpose of the Right to Information (RTI)
The Right to Information Act (2005) was enacted to promote transparency and accountability in government functioning. Its goal is to empower citizens by granting access to information held by public authorities, reducing secrecy in governance.
Step 2: How RTI Reduces Secrecy
Before RTI, citizens had limited access to government data, which encouraged inefficiency and corruption. The RTI Act allows individuals to request official information, compelling authorities to share data and justify decisions. This has increased openness and decreased secrecy in public administration.
Step 3: Empowering Citizens and Strengthening Democracy
RTI empowers citizens to monitor government actions, enhancing participation in democracy. It ensures transparency, accountability, and trust between citizens and government institutions.
