The small intestine plays a pivotal role in the digestion and absorption of food materials in our body. There are other glands in our digestive system as well that secret several enzymes helping in the digestion of food materials. Enzymes of succus entericus help in partial digestion of food converting them into final digestive products.
Succus entericus is secreted by the intestinal glands of the Crypts of Lieberkuhn.
Succus entericus or intestinal juice is secreted by intestinal glands. It contains enzymes such as maltase, sucrose, lactase, enterokinase, etc. Intestinal glands are formed by the surface epithelium of the small intestine. These are two types of crypts of Lieberkuhn and Brunner's glands. Succus entericus is majorly produced by the crypts of Lieberkuhn as these glands occur throughout the small intestine. They secrete digestive enzymes and mucus. Whereas, Brunner's glands are found only in the duodenum. They secrete mucus and a small number of enzymes. The mucus helps in protecting the duodenal wall from getting digested.

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Digestion can be defined as the process of breakdown of large, insoluble and complex food molecules into smaller ones for its absorption and circulation in the body. This process involves the usage of a variety of digestive fluids and enzymes, including saliva, mucus, bile and hydrochloric acid, among others.

The alimentary canal is mainly referred to as the pathway by which food enters our body and moves out through the anus after digestion. It is a tube-like structure that starts from the mouth and ends in the anus. The alimentary canal plays a primary role in human digestion and is also termed as the digestive tract.
Peristalsis is a series of wave-like muscle contractions that move food through the digestive tract.
