Out of C6H5CH2Cl and C6H5CHClC6H5, which is more easily hydrolyzed by aqueous KOH.
Hydrolysis by aqueous KOH proceeds through the formation of carbonation. If carbocation is stable, then the compound is easily hydrolyzed by aqueous KOH. Now,C6H5CH2CL forms 1°-carbocation, while C6H5CHCLC6H5 forms 2°-carbocation, which is more stable than 1°-carbocation.Hence,C6H5CHCLC6H5 is hydrolyzed more easily than C6H5CH2CL by aqueous KOH.
A compound (A) with molecular formula $C_4H_9I$ which is a primary alkyl halide, reacts with alcoholic KOH to give compound (B). Compound (B) reacts with HI to give (C) which is an isomer of (A). When (A) reacts with Na metal in the presence of dry ether, it gives a compound (D), C8H18, which is different from the compound formed when n-butyl iodide reacts with sodium. Write the structures of A, (B), (C) and (D) when (A) reacts with alcoholic KOH.
