The Sustainable Access in Rural India (SARI) project was initiated in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. This project aimed to demonstrate that information and communication technologies (ICTs) could be effectively deployed in rural areas to improve health, education, and economic development. The pilot phase of the project provided internet access and applications to approximately 1,000 connections across 350 villages in the Madurai district. The SARI project was a collaborative effort involving institutions such as IIT Madras, MIT Media Lab, Berkman Center for Internet \& Society at Harvard Law School, and the I-Gyan Foundation, in partnership with n-Logue Communications Pvt.
