LANDSAT Thematic Mapper (TM) and NOAA Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) sensors are well-known for acquiring data in the thermal infrared (TIR) region of the electromagnetic spectrum. This allows for the generation of thermal infrared images, which depict the thermal energy emitted by the Earth's surface. LANDSAT MSS and IRS LISS-II primarily operate in the visible and near-infrared portions of the spectrum. SPOT and CARTOSAT are known for high-resolution visible imagery. IKONOS and QUICKBIRD also provide high-resolution visible and multispectral imagery.
