The Consequences of Escapism and Indifference
Sophie, in Going Places, is a dreamer who indulges in fantasy and unrealistic ambitions. She imagines meeting football star Danny Casey, seeking an escape from her mundane reality. However, her impractical aspirations lead to disappointment and detachment from reality.
Similarly, Franz, in The Last Lesson, is indifferent towards education, frequently missing school. His negligence towards learning makes him realize the value of education only when it is too late—when French is no longer taught in his school due to the Prussian occupation.
Both characters suffer the consequences of their attitude—Sophie faces disillusionment, and Franz regrets his wasted opportunities. Their stories highlight the importance of realism and responsibility in life.
