A bias strip is a strip of fabric cut at a 45° angle (bias) to the grainline, which gives it stretch and flexibility, useful for finishing curved edges.
Steps:
Lay the fabric flat and identify the grainline (warp and weft threads).
Use a square or protractor to draw a 45° line across the fabric; this is the bias line.
Measure and mark the desired width of the strip perpendicular to the bias line.
Cut along these lines carefully to get a straight bias strip.
For longer strips, join bias strips by sewing diagonally to maintain stretch.
Press the bias strip with an iron to prepare for use as binding or edging.
