Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is a highly effective technique for the consolidation of nanostructured and amorphous powders.
It applies uniaxial pressure and pulsed DC current simultaneously, which enables rapid heating and sintering at relatively lower temperatures and shorter times compared to conventional methods.
This prevents grain growth and helps retain the fine nanostructure and amorphous phases of the materials being processed.
Other techniques like hot pressing or cold isostatic pressing do not provide the same level of temperature control or sintering rate, and are less effective in preserving nanoscale features.
