Comprehension
The agriculture sector has experienced buoyant growth in the past two years. The sector, which is the largest employer of workforce, accounted for a sizeable 18.8 per cent (2021–22) in Gross Value Added (GVA) of the country registering a growth of 3.6 per cent in 2020–21 and 3.9 per cent in 2021–22. Growth in allied sectors including livestock, dairy and fisheries has been the major drivers of overall growth in the sector. When measured in total value of agricultural production, India is ranked fourth largest in the world.

Post-independence, there was a need to import food grains due to low productivity, stagnant food-crop sector and poor rural infrastructure making food self-sufficiency a major national goal. The introduction of the Green Revolution then yielded spectacular results and we became one of the largest producers of many agricultural commodities such as rice, wheat, pulses, fruits and vegetables. From being a net importer of foods in the 1960s, India is now a net exporter, thanks to Indian farmers and the Indian agriculture input industry.

The Correct Option is C

Solution and Explanation

Step 1 (Understand the question).
We need to determine which agricultural product India exports the most in terms of quantity or value. This is based on recent agricultural export data from reliable sources such as the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S).
Step 2 (Recall export trends).
India holds the position of the world's largest exporter of rice, covering both basmati and non-basmati categories. The export value of rice has consistently been higher than that of any other agricultural commodity exported from India in recent years.
Step 3 (Eliminate other options).
- Wheat — While India is a large producer, wheat exports are significantly lower than rice exports.
- Sugar — India is a top exporter globally, but its export value still falls short of rice.
- Barley — Export volumes are minimal compared to rice.
Step 4 (Conclusion).
Given the consistent trend and export figures, rice is the largest exported agricultural product from India.
\[ \boxed{\text{Rice (Option C)}} \]

Question: 2

According to provisional data released by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S), India achieved record agricultural exports for FY22. What was the value of India’s agricultural products exports according to this data?

Show Hint

When a question quotes FY and source (e.g., DGCI&S), lock onto the famous headline number. “Record agri-exports in FY22” \(\Rightarrow\) about \$50.2\textb.
Updated On: Aug 13, 2025
  • USD 7.5 billion
  • USD 95.34 billion
  • USD 13.2 billion
  • USD 50.21 billion

Verified By Collegedunia

The Correct Option is D

Solution and Explanation

Step 1 (Identify the source).
The question explicitly cites provisional data from DGCI&S for FY22. We must recall the headline figure for that year.
Step 2 (Recall the record figure).
FY22 was reported as a record year for agricultural exports, with the figure close to \$50 billion.
Step 3 (Match with options).
Among the choices, the precise record number widely cited is \(\$50.21\) billion.
\(\Rightarrow\) Option (D) matches the recalled record value exactly.
Step 4 (Eliminate distractors).
\$7.5b and \$13.2b are far too small for total agri-exports; \$95.34b is too high and inconsistent with FY22 reports.
\[ \boxed{\text{USD }50.21\ \text{billion (Option D)}} \]

The Correct Option is A

Solution and Explanation

Step 1 (Associate names with domains).
Verghese Kurien \(\Rightarrow\) “Father of White Revolution” (dairy).
Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar \(\Rightarrow\) eminent scientist, CSIR.
Atmaram Bhairav Joshi \(\Rightarrow\) chemist/educationist.
Step 2 (Wheat-breeding pioneer).
Dilbagh Singh Athwal was a leading Indian wheat breeder credited with major contributions to high-yield wheat varieties during the Green Revolution period.
Step 3 (Conclusion).
Hence, the epithet “Father of the Wheat Revolution” aligns with Dilbagh Singh Athwal.
\[ \boxed{\text{Dilbagh Singh Athwal (Option A)}} \]

The Correct Option is D

Solution and Explanation

Step 1 (Recall global positions).
India leads globally in milk production; it contributes the highest total milk output.

Rice — India is a top producer/exporter, but China leads in production.
Poultry meat — The U.S., China, Brazil dominate.
Almonds — The U.S. (California) leads.
Step 3 (Conclusion).
\(\Rightarrow\) The correct choice is Milk.

The Correct Option is B

Solution and Explanation

Step 1 (Recall the exact year).
The question is for 2022 GHI (not 2023).
Step 2 (Remember the number).
India’s rank reported in GHI 2022 was 107 out of 121 countries.
Step 3 (Sanity check).
Other ranks (10, 35, 50) do not match widely reported 2022 figures.
\[ \boxed{107\ \text{(Option B)}} \]

The Correct Option is C

Solution and Explanation

Step 1 (Recall the commission).
The National Commission on Farmers (NCF) was set up in 2004 to address farm distress and recommend policy measures.
Step 2 (Key recommendation).
A hallmark recommendation was that MSP should be at least \( \text{C2} + 50\% \) (comprehensive cost plus 50%).
Step 3 (Chairperson).
The NCF was chaired by Prof. M. S. Swaminathan, known as the “Father of India’s Green Revolution.”
Step 4 (Eliminate distractors).
Ashok Gulati (agri-economist) and Abhijit Sen (economist, CACP/PC ties) were not NCF chair; P. Sainath is a journalist.
\[ \boxed{\text{M. S. Swaminathan (Option C)}} \]

The bio-decomposer technology to avoid stubble burning around the Delhi NCR was developed by:

Show Hint

Remember “Pusa” in the name \(\Rightarrow\) ICAR–IARI, New Delhi. Government agri-research origin, not a private company.

  • ICAR, Pusa Campus
Hide Solution
collegedunia
Verified By Collegedunia

The Correct Option is D

Solution and Explanation

Step 1 (Identify the institute).
The “Pusa bio-decomposer” is a microbial solution developed by ICAR–IARI (Pusa, New Delhi) to accelerate decomposition of crop residue in-situ.
Step 2 (Reason it prevents burning).
By converting stubble to compost quickly, it reduces the need to burn residue, thereby mitigating pollution episodes in NCR.
Step 3 (Eliminate distractors).
Monsanto/Cargill/Biocon are private-sector entities unrelated to this specific public-research development.
\[ \boxed{\text{ICAR, Pusa Campus (Option D)}} \]
