Comprehension

In the country of Gagan, air travellers can buy their tickets either directly from the airlines or from three websites that are licensed to offer ticketing services online. In Gagan, most of the commercial transactions are done electronically, and all citizens have an account with its national bank, CeeCee. As a result, the three websites have become popular, and each transaction through these websites carries a surcharge of Gs. 250 (Gs. refers to Guppes, the currency of Gagan). Given below are four post new - year (January 2, 2011, to February 28, 2011) offers from three competing websites:
Cozy _ travel Offer: Make a con rmed booking for any service ( ight ticket, hotel or rail tickets) through Cozy_travel.com from December 5, 2010 to February 8, 2011 and become eligible for two free air tickets (offer is limited to the base fare). Free tickets have to be booked through online request from January 1, 2011 to February 28, 2011. The request for free tickets should be submitted at least twenty-one days in advance. Free tickets are non-amendable (except the passenger's name) and cannot be cancelled. Free ticket cannot be exchanged for cash or kind with anybody. Cozy_travel will try its best to secure the free ticket as per the request. However, ticket con rmation is subject to airline schedule and set availability in airlines selected and nalized by Cozy_travel from speci c available airlines.
Cool_yatra Offer: Book any air ticket of any airline on Cool_yatra.com on or after December 21, 2010 and get your next ticket free. Under this offer, only the base fare of the free ticket will be refunded by Cool_Yatra.com. The customer will have to bear the rest of the charges (other fees and surcharges). The value of the base fare will be refunded to the passenger on/after March 1 or fteen days after completion of travel on the free ticket (whichever is later). The free ticket can be booked only on Gaga Air ights. The free ticket must be booked within fteen days of booking the original ticket, and the travel date of the free ticket must be fteen days after the booking date of the free ticket. There must be a seven-day gap between the travel date of the main/original ticket and the free ticket. The travel date of the free ticket should be on or before February 28, 2011. The free ticket cannot be transferred. On cancellation of the original ticket(s), you no longer remain eligible for the free ticket(s).
Easy_travel Cash Back Offer: Easy travel offers 25% cash back on all air ticket bookings between December 5, 2010 and February 28, 2011 using CeeCee net banking service or its debit/credit card. The cashback amount will be credited back to the customer's account within twenty-one days of making the transaction. Maximum cashback during the period is Gs. 400 per person per ticket, and the total amount that can be claimed by the customer is Gs. 2,400.
Ek Ke Sath Ek Offer from Easy_travel: Book an AirSpice ticket with Easy_travel using any credit/debit card, and get another ticket absolutely free. The free tickets will be issued on AirSpice on its entire network. The offer is valid for sale from January 11, 2011 to January 31, 2011. The free ticket must be booked at least fteen days prior to the date of travel and needs to be completed within the offer period. The promotion code for the free ticket will get activated only seven days after booking the main ticket. Easy_travel will charge a handling fee of Gs. 1000/- per person for any amendments made on the main ticket. Cancellations of tickets purchased under this offer are not permitted. The free ticket obtained under this offer can not be exchanged for cash and cannot be re-routed

Question: 1

Which offer has got the maximum chance for becoming the most popular among the air travellers of Gagan during post new-year period? Among the following options, choose the best offer – explanation combination.

Show Hint

When evaluating offers, look beyond monetary value. Flexibility (like transferability, validity, and usage conditions) often determines popularity more than just discounts.
Updated On: Aug 23, 2025
  • Cozy__travel, because the customers will get twice the number of flights and offer is applicable for all services provided by Cozy__travel.
  • Cozy__travel, because it allows any customer to transfer the free ticket to any one if they are not interested in using it.
  • Ek ke sath ek offer from Easy__travel, because it offers absolutely free tickets to all customers.
  • Cash Back offer from Easy__travel, because all other offers are restricted either in terms of airlines to choose or the period of offer.
  • Cozy__travel, because it allows customers to use free tickets even after post new-year period.

The Correct Option is B

Solution and Explanation

Step 1: Understand the condition for maximum popularity.
An offer becomes popular if it provides maximum \emph{flexibility, usability, and value} to a wide range of customers. Thus, we need to check not just the discount but also how easily customers can avail it.

Step 2: Analyze Cozy__travel’s offer.
Cozy__travel provides two free air tickets on booking any service (flight, hotel, rail). These tickets are non-amendable except for the passenger’s name. - This means if the customer cannot travel, they can still \emph{transfer the ticket to a friend or family member}. - This flexibility greatly enhances usability and ensures the tickets are not wasted. \Rightarrow This makes Cozy__travel highly attractive to customers compared to competitors.

Step 3: Analyze other options.
- (A) Twice the number of flights: Misinterpretation — the offer is not about doubling flights, but about free tickets. ✗ - (C) Ek ke sath ek: Restrictive to only AirSpice airlines, limited validity. ✗ - (D) Cash back: Attractive, but capped at Gs. 2400 and limited in scope. ✗ - (E) Use after post new-year: Incorrect, as free tickets must be used by Feb 28, 2011. ✗

Step 4: Conclusion.
Since Cozy__travel’s transferable ticket policy maximizes usage and ensures no loss of value, it has the greatest chance of becoming the most popular. \[ \boxed{\text{Correct Answer: B}} \]

Question: 2

Suppose the offer from Cool__yatra became the most popular, and the other two agencies have sought help from business consultants to make their offers more attractive. Identify the best recommendation among the following.

Show Hint

In business decision-making, always identify why a competitor’s offer succeeded. Then, propose changes that neutralize their unique advantage rather than blindly increasing quantity or discount.
Updated On: Aug 23, 2025
  • Recommendation for the Ek Ke Sath Ek Offer of Easy__travel: Negotiate with Gaga Air to come up with an offer that provides one free ticket for every main ticket booked in Air Spice.
  • Recommendation for the Cash Back Offer of Easy__travel: Ensure that cash back amount will be credited back to the customer’s account within fifteen days.
  • Recommendation for the offer from Cozy__travel: Reduce the number of free tickets to one and applicable only for air ticket booking (not for other service), but allow customers to book their free ticket from Cozy__travel.com in Gaga Air or comparable airlines without any date restrictions.
  • Recommendation for the Ek Ke Sath Ek Offer of Easy__travel: Negotiate with Gaga Air to come up with an offer that provides one free ticket for every main ticket booked in Gaga Air and run both offers simultaneously.
  • Recommendation for the offer from Cozy__travel: Do not allow customers to transfer tickets to others, but disclose that Cozy__travel will consider both GagaAir and AirSpice flights that connect all cities in Gagan for issuing free tickets.

The Correct Option is C

Solution and Explanation

Step 1: Understand why Cool__yatra became most popular.
Cool__yatra had one main edge: although it only offered tickets on Gaga Air, its structure was straightforward. The key differentiator was \emph{date restrictions}. Cozy__travel imposed strict advance booking and date limits, whereas Cool__yatra provided a sense of flexibility.

Step 2: Improving Cozy__travel’s offer.
If Cozy__travel reduces the free tickets from two to one (less generous), but removes date restrictions, customers would find it more practical.
- Customers prefer flexibility over quantity. - Eliminating date restrictions makes the offer easier to use.

Step 3: Eliminate other recommendations.
- (A) & (D): Dependent on negotiations with airlines, uncertain feasibility. ✗ - (B): Faster cashback is good, but doesn’t remove the cap of Gs. 2400. ✗ - (E): Restricting transfer reduces attractiveness. ✗

Step 4: Conclusion.
Thus, recommendation (C) directly addresses the weakness of Cozy__travel’s offer by focusing on flexibility. \[ \boxed{\text{Correct Answer: C}} \]

Question: 3

Jagan is appearing for MAAT exam on January 2, 2011, in a city which is not his hometown and he is yet to book the air ticket to reach his hometown from MAAT center. Based on his MAAT performance, he is confident about getting an interview call from the institute of his choice located in Akashpur. All institutes associated with MAAT will contact the short-listed candidates within next two weeks with venue details and date of interview. Interviews will be scheduled within fifteen days from the date of announcement of shortlist, and will be held at the respective institutes. Jagan’s hometown, MAAT centre, and Akashpur are connected by all airlines and the base fares start at Gs. 1{,}000. While visiting Akashpur for the interview, Jagan will have to put up in a hotel. The minimum charge for booking a hotel in Akashpur through Cozy__travel is Gs. 2{,}400. Equally good hotels which are not listed in the Cozy__travel website charge Gs. 1{,}000. All the three travel websites assure a minimum of one free air ticket for every booking. If Jagan has no other reason to fly, which of the following offers should Jagan go for?

Show Hint

When dates are uncertain, prioritize offers with \emph{flexible booking windows} over larger nominal benefits. A stringent “request 21 days in advance” clause can make a generous offer unusable.
Updated On: Aug 23, 2025
  • Ek Ke Sath Ek Offer of Easy__travel.
  • Get the flight ticket and hotel booking from Cozy__travel. He should use confirmed free ticket for return journey and exchange extra ticket (if any) on barter basis.
  • Get the flight ticket through Cozy__travel, and use the second ticket if available for the return journey.
  • Get the flight ticket from Cool__yatra.
  • Get the flight ticket and hotel booking through Cozy__travel, and use free tickets for return journey.

The Correct Option is D

Solution and Explanation

Step 1: Fix the possible interview window.
Exam date $=$ 2 Jan 2011. Shortlist announced \emph{within} two weeks $\Rightarrow$ any day up to 16 Jan.
Interview held \emph{within} 15 days of shortlist $\Rightarrow$ latest interview by 31 Jan.
\Rightarrow Jagan cannot predict the exact interview date and will likely get at most 15 days’ notice.

Step 2: Map each offer’s date/usage restrictions.
\begin{itemize} \item

Cozy__travel: Free ticket request must be submitted at least 21 days in advance; tickets non-amendable (except passenger name). $\Rightarrow$ Not usable for an interview that may be scheduled with $\le 15$ days’ notice. \item

Ek Ke Sath Ek (Easy__travel): Free ticket must be booked at least 15 days prior to travel and travel must be completed within the offer period (sale Jan 11–31). $\Rightarrow$ Risky/possibly invalid if interview falls after Jan 31 or if the 15-day prior rule cannot be met once shortlist arrives. \item

Cool__yatra: After buying any ticket, the next ticket’s base fare is refunded on Gaga Air; free ticket must be \emph{booked within 15 days of the original booking} and its \emph{travel date at least 15 days after booking}; also 7-day gap vs original travel. Refund is post-travel (after Mar 1 or 15 days after travel). $\Rightarrow$ Feasible: Jagan can book his return/interview trip to Akashpur for any date $\ge$ 15 days after booking; the unknown interview date (by Jan 31) fits this window. \end{itemize}

Step 3: Cost angle for hotel.
Booking Akashpur hotel via Cozy__travel costs Gs.\ 2{,}400, while an equally good non-listed hotel costs Gs.\ 1{,}000. $\Rightarrow$ Cozy hotel add-on is costlier by Gs.\ 1{,}400 and unnecessary.

Step 4: Eliminate choices.
(B) and (E) require Cozy__travel hotel booking (expensive) and Cozy free ticket (needs 21-day advance) $\Rightarrow$ infeasible.
(C) still depends on Cozy free ticket $\Rightarrow$ fails the 21-day rule.
(A) faces tight sale window and “15-days-prior” constraint $\Rightarrow$ risky.
(D) meets the uncertain-date need; all routes are connected and Gaga Air works. $\Rightarrow$

best. \[ \boxed{\text{D (Cool__yatra is the only robust, date-feasible option)}} \]

Question: 4

Janaki needs to reach Khilli on January 28 to visit her uncle, and will return after fifteen days. Janaki found that the minimum fare for both the to and fro journeys is Gs.\ 5{,}000 which includes Gs.\ 1{,}200 base fare. If all airlines connect Janaki’s city to Khilli, and all three offers (except the Cash Back Offer) ensure a minimum of one free air ticket, which of the following should Janaki opt for?

Show Hint

When cash-back is \emph{capped} and the competing offer grants a \emph{full base-fare waiver} right away, the free-ticket offer typically wins—especially for near-term, fixed dates.
Updated On: Aug 23, 2025
  • Ek Ke Sath Ek Offer of Easy__travel
  • Cash Back Offer of Easy__travel
  • The Cozy__travel offer
  • The Cool__yatra offer
  • Buy air tickets directly from airline websites

The Correct Option is C

Solution and Explanation

Step 1: What does Janaki want?
A confirmed round trip: depart Jan 28, return after 15 days (around Feb 12). She prefers the offer that yields the \emph{lowest effective outlay} with \emph{least friction}.

Step 2: Evaluate each offer against her fixed dates.
\begin{itemize} \item

Cozy__travel: Two free air tickets (base fare) for bookings made in the window; free tickets are requested at least 21 days in advance and travel by Feb 28. For a planned Jan 28 outbound and mid-Feb return, she can request in time and effectively get an \emph{immediate} free-ticket benefit (no waiting for refund). \item

Cool__yatra: Next ticket’s base fare refunded (Gaga Air only), but refund is credited \emph{after travel} (post Mar 1 or 15 days after travel). Also, free ticket must be booked within 15 days of original and travel at least 15 days after booking — administratively tighter and cash-flow negative till refund. \item

Ek Ke Sath Ek (Easy__travel): Requires free ticket to be booked at least 15 days prior and travel completed within the offer period; more restrictive than Cozy__travel for the given fixed dates. \item

Cash Back (Easy__travel): 25% cashback capped at Gs.\ 400 per ticket, total cap Gs.\ 2{,}400 — materially smaller than gaining a full base-fare free ticket. \end{itemize}

Step 3: Choose the best.
Cozy__travel gives a minimum of one free ticket with \emph{up-front} value realization and fits both Jan 28 and mid-Feb travel within the program period.
\Rightarrow Cozy__travel yields the largest and most immediate savings for this round trip. \[ \boxed{\text{C (Cozy__travel provides the highest immediate benefit for Janaki’s dates)}} \]
