In gas absorption, a mixture of gases is brought into contact with a liquid (the solvent) which absorbs one or more of the gases (the solute). The component that is transferred from the gas phase to the liquid phase is the solute, while the remaining gas (usually inert) is referred to as the carrier gas.
So, in this process:
- The solute is typically present in the gas phase.
- The solvent is the absorbing liquid.
Hence, the gas phase mainly contains the solute that is to be absorbed.
