The Government of India has taken several progressive steps to promote organic farming and ensure its sustainability and profitability. Some key initiatives are:
(i) Formation of a National-Level Multi-State Cooperative Society:
A special cooperative has been approved by the Union Cabinet to promote organic production and its export. This body aims to streamline the supply chain and offer better income to organic farmers.
(ii) Soil Testing and Organic Input Facilitation:
Arrangements will be made at the district level over the next five years to test soil and ensure the use of appropriate natural inputs. This will help farmers adopt suitable organic techniques.
(iii) Panchayat-Level Cooperatives:
The government plans to set up cooperative societies in every Panchayat to ensure grassroots-level access and support to farmers practicing organic agriculture. These societies will connect farmers with national resources.
(iv) Marketing and Certification Measures:
Emphasis is placed on developing mechanisms for proper marketing, labeling, and certification to help farmers fetch better prices and build consumer trust.
(v) Prevention of Adulteration:
Strict measures are being implemented to prevent the sale of fake organic products in the market, thereby safeguarding the credibility of genuine organic produce.
These steps reflect a strong government push to make organic farming a profitable and sustainable occupation for Indian farmers.
