Number Formatting
Number formatting refers to how numbers are displayed in spreadsheet or accounting software. It allows users to present numeric values in meaningful formats.
Common types of number formatting include:
- Currency: Displays values with currency symbols like ₹ or $ (e.g., ₹5,000.00)
- Number: Shows numeric values with or without decimal points (e.g., 5000.00)
- Percentage: Converts and displays values as a percent (e.g., 0.25 as 25%)
- Date and Time: Converts serial numbers to readable dates and times (e.g., 44927 as 31-Mar-2023)
- Scientific: Represents very large or small numbers using exponential notation
Note: Number formatting doesn’t change the actual value in the cell, only how it appears.
