• Dehydration: Diarrhea causes massive fluid loss, which may lead to low blood pressure, shock, or death.
• Electrolyte imbalance: Loss of sodium, potassium, and chloride disturbs the functioning of vital organs.
• Nutrient malabsorption: Continuous diarrhea prevents absorption of vital nutrients.
• Risk in children and elderly: In these groups, complications can arise rapidly.

Management:

• Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) to replenish fluids.
• Zinc supplementation to reduce duration.
• Light, easily digestible food like khichdi, banana, toast.
