Mr Lamb is an old man with a positive outlook despite his physical disability. He believes in embracing life and people, and keeping his mind open to all experiences. Derry, on the other hand, is a young boy with a burned face who isolates himself due to societal rejection. He is bitter, insecure, and angry. While Mr Lamb encourages openness and positivity, Derry is fearful and withdrawn. However, Mr Lamb’s influence inspires Derry to change his perspective. By the end of the play, Derry learns to accept himself and live confidently. Their contrast helps highlight the power of optimism and human connection in overcoming physical and emotional scars.
