The Correct Option is A

Solution and Explanation

Mycoplasma (Kingdom-Monera) are the simplest and smallest free living prokaryotes which are devoid of a cell wall. Their outermost boundary is a plasma membrane. This characteristic feature of mycoplasma make them resistant towards the antibiotics like penicillin or beta-lactam antibiotics that acts on cell wall synthesis.

The other three organisms contains cell wall:

  • Nostoc is a cyanobacterium belonging to Kingdom Monera. It contains cell wall that comprises of peptidoglycans.
  • Aspergillus belongs to Kingdom Fungi in which the cell wall is mainly made up of chitin.
  • Funaria is a bryophyte belonging to Kingdom Plantae whose cell wall is cellulosic in nature.

Biological Classification

The process of grouping living organisms into categories is called biological classification. The most modern 5-kingdom classification was put ahead by an eminent scientist R.H.Whittaker. The five-kingdom classification is based on the criteria like cell structure, mode of nutrition, body form, and reproduction. One of the most important characteristics of this system is that it follows the evolutionary sequence of living organisms. The organisms are classified into distinct taxa or levels like Kingdom, Phylum, Division, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. The 5 kingdoms are as follows:
