The CD59 marker is associated with the disease Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH). CD59 is a protein that regulates the complement system by inhibiting the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) on cell surfaces. In PNH, a genetic mutation affects the surface proteins that normally anchor CD59, leading to an increased susceptibility of red blood cells to be lysed by the complement system.
