Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, are photosynthetic prokaryotes that can fix atmospheric nitrogen into usable forms (like ammonia), enriching soil fertility. Some of them possess specialized cells called heterocysts where nitrogen fixation occurs.
Examples:
\begin{enumerate}
\item Nostoc
\item Anabaena
\end{enumerate}
Note: Both Nostoc and Anabaena are commonly found in rice fields and play an important role as biofertilizers in agriculture.
