One of the major changes introduced by the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, was the creation of a new regulatory body with significant enforcement powers. Chapter III of the Act is dedicated to this body. Section 10(1) of the Act explicitly provides for the "Establishment of Central Consumer Protection Authority." This authority, known as the CCPA, is tasked with promoting, protecting, and enforcing the rights of consumers as a class. Its powers include conducting investigations, ordering recalls of unsafe goods, and imposing penalties for unfair trade practices.
