Section 173 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (CrPC) deals with the "Report of police officer on completion of investigation." This report, commonly known as the chargesheet or final report, is the culmination of the police investigation. Specifically, subsection (2) of Section 173 mandates that the officer-in-charge shall forward this report to a Magistrate empowered to take cognizance. Clause (i) of subsection (2) then lists the details that must be included in the report, such as names of parties, nature of information, evidence collected, etc. Other sections listed are incorrect: S.174 deals with inquest reports, S.177 with jurisdiction, and S.175 with summoning persons during an inquest.
