Question:

Two trains, 330 and 110 m long, are going in the same direction. The faster train takes one minute to pass the other completely. If they are moving in opposite directions, they pass each other completely in 3 s. What is the speed of the faster train?

The Correct Option is A

Solution and Explanation

Using the concept of relative velocity:
Total distance-240 m
When going in same direction

\(\frac{240}{x-y}=60\)

x-y=4
When going in different direction

\(\frac{240}{x-y}=3\)

x+y=80

On solving the equations we get,

x=42 and y=38 Speed of faster train is \(\frac{42m}{s}\)

and slower one is \(\frac{38m}{s}\).So the correct option is (A) : .
