An electric generator that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy in form of an alternative emf or alternating current is called an AC generator. It works on the principle of ”Electromagnetic Induction”.
An Ac generator comprises two poles of a magnet, one is the north pole and the other is the south pole of a magnet, in order to have a uniform magnetic field. It contains a coil that is rectangular in shape which is the armature. These coils are connected to the slip rings and nuts about them are carbon brushes.
The slip rings are made up of metal and are insulated from each other. The brushes are carbon brushes and one end of each brush connects to the ring and the other connects to the circuit. The rectangular coils rotate approximately on an axis that is perpendicular to the magnetic field. There is also a shaft that rotates rapidly.
