The body of the moss has both gametophyte and sporophyte. Of these, the gametophyte phase is predominant and the sporophyte is dependent on the gametophyte. The gametophyte is the leafy, green structure that grows on the surface and is responsible for photosynthesis and reproductive structures. On the other hand, the sporophyte has a smaller structure that grows on the gametophyte.
