Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer. It arises from the basal cells of the epidermis and is strongly associated with chronic sun exposure. BCC is slow-growing and rarely metastasizes, but can cause local destruction.
- Melanoma is more aggressive but less common.
- Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common skin cancer.
- Merkel cell carcinoma is rare but highly aggressive.
