Approach Solution - 1

Sergei thinks that because of his timely advice Lushkoff could get rid of begging and is financially independent. He is right from his perspective because he doesn’t know that it was Olga who chopped woods for Lushkoff.
Anyway, the end result is Lushkoff’s life is back on the right track. And there is a saying, “all is well that ends well.”

Approach Solution -2

Sergei says these words because he believes he has rescued Lushkoff from a life on the streets, guiding him towards a more responsible lifestyle. He is partly correct, as his words did influence Lushkoff to become sober. However, Lushkoff remained largely idle, which is evident during the furniture unpacking when he barely touched the furniture and simply walked behind the wagons.
