Plant growth hormone: The plant growth hormone synthesized at the shoot tip is auxin.
Shoot bending towards light: The shoot of a potted plant bends towards light (positive phototropism) because of the unequal distribution of auxin. When light shines on one side of the shoot, auxin accumulates on the shaded side. Auxin stimulates cell elongation, causing the cells on the shaded side to grow faster than those on the light side. This differential growth leads to the bending of the shoot towards the light source.
