In the bus topology, all nodes (computers or devices) are connected to a single central cable known as the bus or backbone. This setup allows all devices to share the same communication line. Because only one main cable is used, the bus topology is relatively inexpensive and easy to install and maintain compared to other topologies.
However, if the backbone cable fails, the entire network can go down. Despite this, its simplicity and cost-effectiveness make it popular in small networks.
