Double fertilization is the characteristic feature of angiosperms This phenomenon first observed by Nawaschin, 1898 in Lilium and Fritillaria. In angiosperms one male gamete fuses with the two polar nuclei to form triploid primary endosperm ^ nucleus. The process is called triple fusion. These two acts together are known as double fertilization.
