Question:

Direction: Read the following scenario and answer the questions that follow:
Mohan, Kishan, Manohar, and Kripa own a dry cleaning shop each in Skardi Plaza. They are the only dry cleaners in a township which is home to over 5,000 families. Each of them offered three services: Dry cleaning, Darning, and Alteration. One morning they met at a snack shop and verbally agreed to charge Rs. 200 for any of the three services on weekdays. On weekends and holidays, they agreed to increase the rate by Rs. 50.
After two months from the date of the agreement, Mohan observed a decrease in his revenues. He wasn’t as skilled as Kripa, nor did he have a loyal customer base like Manohar. In order to increase his customer base, he lowered his prices to Rs. 150 per service. After two months, Kishan, Manohar, and Kripa found out about this and shared a common concern that everyone’s revenue would take a hit because of this. What should they do so that Mohan returns to the fold and keeps his part of the agreement henceforth?

  • They should report Mohan to the police and file a case against him.
  • They should manipulate Mohan’s customers and lure them to stop availing Mohan’s services.
  • They should talk to Mohan and offer assistance in terms of new customer referrals and flexible operation hours.

  • They should ask the township authorities not to allow Mohan to run his shop in the township anymore.

The Correct Option is C

Solution and Explanation

Since the agreement is a verbal one, there is no way Kishan, Manohar, and Kripa will be able to enforce it in the court of law. So, option A can be rejected.

The suggestions made in option B and E are unethical ones and are not advisable at all.

By lowering their rates, Kishan, Manohar, and Kripa would lose the faith of their customers who might presume that the three were charging them more than required.

The only way to resolve the situation would be to convince Mohan to follow suit and also help him with his problem of dipping revenues. Providing Mohan with new customers will not only help him increase his revenues but also provide him with a chance to create a customer base of his own.

So, the correct option will be C.
