1. Inland Ports:

These ports are located away from the coast, on a river or a canal that is navigable to the sea. They serve as collection centers for goods from the hinterland. Examples include:

• Manchester on the Manchester Ship Canal in the UK

2. Out Ports (or Coastal Ports):

These are deep-water ports built away from the actual main port, directly on the coast. They are developed to serve the parent port by receiving large ships that cannot reach the main port due to its shallow depth. An example includes:

• Piraeus, which is the out port for Athens in Greece
