Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian to receive the Nobel Prize. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his collection of poems, "Gitanjali".
Tagore was a poet, philosopher, and artist who played a significant role in Indian literature and the independence movement. His compositions are also the national anthems of India ("Jana Gana Mana") and Bangladesh ("Amar Sonar Bangla").
