In the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, Order 6 is titled "Pleadings Generally." It sets out the fundamental principles that apply to all pleadings, which include both the plaint (plaintiff's statement of claim) and the written statement (defendant's statement of defence). It contains rules about what pleadings should contain (material facts, not evidence), signing, verification, and amendment. While Order 7 deals specifically with the contents of a Plaint and Order 8 deals with the Written Statement, Order 6 provides the overarching rules for both.
