Article 226 of the Constitution of India grants every High Court the power to issue to any person or authority, including the government, directions, orders, or writs, including writs in the nature of habeas corpus, mandamus, prohibition, quo warranto, and certiorari. This power can be exercised for the enforcement of any of the Fundamental Rights (Part III) and for "any other purpose." This makes the writ jurisdiction of the High Court wider than that of the Supreme Court under Article 32, which is confined to the enforcement of Fundamental Rights only.
