Solution and Explanation

Passepartout blamed himself for his master’s misfortune because he felt responsible for the trouble that Mr. Phileas Fogg faced. During their journey, Passepartout was tricked by Detective Fix. Fix suspected Mr. Fogg of being a bank robber and followed them secretly. Passepartout innocently revealed their travel plans to Fix, not realizing his true intention.
Because of this, Fix managed to delay Mr. Fogg at various places and even had him arrested in England. These delays caused Mr. Fogg to lose precious time in completing his journey around the world within eighty days. When Passepartout realized that his carelessness had helped Fix in creating obstacles, he felt deeply guilty.
He thought that his mistake had caused his master to lose the bet and suffer unnecessary hardship. Therefore, he blamed himself for his master’s misfortune.
