The sparrows and the grandmother had developed an intimate relationship so the sparrows also mourned her death. When the grandmother died, thousands of sparrows expressed their sorrow by sitting scattered in the verandah in mourning while grandmother’s dead-body lay there. They did not chirrup. Author’s mother threw some pieces of bread but they showed no interest in the bread crumbs. When they carried grandmother’s corpse off, they flew away quietly.
