Anorexia nervosa is a serious eating disorder with psychological and physical manifestations. Two characteristic features are:
Severe weight loss: Due to extreme food restriction and excessive exercise, patients maintain a body weight significantly below normal for their age and height.
Distorted body image: Patients perceive themselves as overweight even when dangerously thin, leading to an intense fear of gaining weight.
Other features may include low self-esteem, denial of hunger, and obsessive behavior related to food and body weight.
