On becoming the Chairperson of any organization or body, it is a significant responsibility to ensure that the entity adheres to its purpose and mission. Justice Arun Mishra took over as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The NHRC is a statutory public body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The Commission is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, defined by the Act as "rights relating to life, liberty, equality, and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the Constitution or embodied in the International Covenants and enforceable by courts in India."
The role requires overseeing the investigation of human rights violations and providing recommendations for their rectification. Justice Arun Mishra, with his extensive legal experience, brings his expertise to address these issues effectively.
