Gamete formation involves meiosis or reduction division. It produces four daughter cells from one parent cell, which are having half the chromosome number as compared to the parent cell. So if the parent plant has 24 chromosomes [i.e. 2n = 24, then n = 12] then the four gametes formed will have 12 chromosomes in each of them.
