\caption{Schematic diagram showing the process of spermatogenesis.}
\label{fig:spermatogenesis}
\end{figure}
Spermatogenesis occurs in the seminiferous tubules of the testes and involves the production of haploid sperm cells from diploid spermatogonia. The process includes three main phases:
\begin{itemize}
\item Multiplication Phase: Diploid spermatogonia (stem cells) undergo mitosis to increase their number. Some spermatogonia differentiate into primary spermatocytes.
\item Growth Phase: The primary spermatocytes grow in size and prepare for meiosis.
\item Maturation Phase: Primary spermatocytes undergo meiosis I to form two haploid secondary spermatocytes. These then undergo meiosis II, producing four haploid spermatids.
\end{itemize}
Spermatids undergo spermiogenesis, transforming into mature spermatozoa. Sertoli cells provide structural and nutritional support throughout this process. The entire cycle takes approximately 64–74 days in humans.
