The Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India originally contained 14 languages. Over time, amendments were made to include more languages:
- 21st Amendment (1967): Added Sindhi.
- 71st Amendment (1992): Added Konkani, Manipuri, and Nepali, increasing the count to 18.
- 92nd Amendment (2003): Added Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, and Santhali.
Hence, the total number of languages listed in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India is now 22.
