National Youth Day, celebrated on January 12th every year, marks
the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, a great philosopher, and spiritual leader.
Swami Vivekananda’s teachings emphasized the importance of youth in building a nation
and his thoughts on strength, self-confidence, and the role of young people in national
development continue to inspire millions. The Government of India declared January 12th as
National Youth Day in 1985 to honor Vivekananda’s contributions to society and to
encourage young people to follow his ideals. The day is celebrated with various events
aimed at motivating the youth to participate in nation-building activities and to create
awareness about their roles in social development.
