Step 1: Understanding Dehydration Reactions
Dehydration synthesis occurs when monomers join to form polymers by removing a molecule of water. This occurs in:
- Peptide bonds (between amino acids in proteins).
- Glycosidic bonds (between monosaccharides in carbohydrates).
- Ester bonds (in lipids between glycerol and fatty acids).
Hydrogen bonds are not formed by dehydration.
