1961: In 1961 the share of 0-14 years age group in total population was the highest at 41%. The population of working age group was 53%, while 60+ age group had 6% share.
2026 (Projected): By 2026, the share of 0-14 age group is expected to decrease significantly to 23%, while the working age population is expected to rise to 64%. Also the 60+ age group is expected to double by then, at 12%.
Inference: This signifies a major demographic shift, wherein there will be greater share of working population, along with a growing population of old people.
