The Right to Property, which was originally a Fundamental Right under Article 19(1)(f) and Article 31, was significantly altered by the 44th Amendment Act, 1978. This amendment deleted these articles from Part III (Fundamental Rights) and inserted a new article, Article 300A, in Part XII of the Constitution. Article 300A states, "No person shall be deprived of his property save by authority of law." This changed the status of the right to property from a fundamental right to a constitutional or legal right, meaning it can no longer be enforced directly in the Supreme Court under Article 32, but can be protected by law.
