Subwoofer box size?

Question: I have a used 12" JL sub in a ported box. I don't know the model number or anything... I bought it off a friend a couple of years ago in it's ported box, so I never saw the speaker itself. I want to put it in a sealed box to reduce its size. Right now the ported box is huge! But without knowing anything about the sub, how big of a sealed box should I make for it? I already have a .9cu/ft box for 2 8's... can I just use this box and replace the baffle to fit my 12" ?

Answer: You'll really need to find out the T/S parameters of the sub to calculate the correct enclosure size. Typically, you can get away with anything from 1.5 to 2.5 cu.ft with 12" subs for a sealed enclosure.
